Solar timing lab
Time Your Run to the Sun’s Peak
Morning and sunset glare can wreck an otherwise great workout, especially on runs and drives to the trail. True Noon uses your U.S. ZIP code to find local solar noon so you can train when visibility is at its best.
- ZIP to coordinates via Zippopotam
- Coordinates to timezone via Open-Meteo
- Sun angle to local solar noon using the equation of time

How we calculate true noon
- Translate your ZIP code into latitude/longitude using Zippopotam.
- Detect the local timezone and UTC offset from Open-Meteo forecast metadata.
- Use NOAA's equation of time (which accounts for Earth's tilt and orbital eccentricity) to find the moment the sun crosses your meridian.
Times are computed for today's date in the target location. Atmospheric refraction and terrain are not considered, and ZIP centroids can introduce a few minutes of error.
